When a Dock Is Failing, Sequence Matters: Make Safe First
An actively failing dock is a different problem than a worn one. A structure that has partially collapsed, lost pilings, or been hit by a boat or storm is still moving — every wave works the damage wider, every day of exposure lets water into fresh-broken framing, and anything attached to it (lifts, boats, utilities) is at risk of following it down. The correct response sequence is stabilize first, assess second, rebuild third — and speed matters most at step one.
Our make-safe work stops the loss: shoring or bracing compromised sections, disconnecting and securing boat lifts and utilities, removing collapse hazards, and cutting away debris that's loading the surviving structure. With the failure arrested, the permanent repair can be scoped calmly instead of desperately — which almost always produces a better and cheaper outcome.

Not necessarily. Treated marine timber tolerates submersion; the vulnerable points are connections, hardware, electrical, and any lift motors that went under. Can you remove a destroyed dock, not just repair one?
