Heavy Timber: Structure and Architecture in One System

Heavy timber trusses solve a structural problem beautifully: how to span a wide open space — a boat house roof, a pavilion, a great-room ceiling — without columns interrupting it. Where conventional light framing hides its work behind drywall, a timber truss is the finished product: king-post, queen-post, or scissor geometry in massive treated members, carrying real roof loads while giving the space its character.

We design the truss to the span, the roof load, and the architecture — pitch, overhangs, exposed connections — then fabricate and raise it on properly engineered supports. Over water, that means marine-grade pilings driven by our own equipment, which is what lets us put timber-truss roofs on boat houses and waterfront pavilions that most truss shops can't touch.

Connections are where truss quality shows. Depending on the design we use concealed steel connectors for a clean all-wood look or exposed steel plates as an architectural feature — either way sized to the loads and hot-dip galvanized or better for the exposure.

Where Timber Trusses Earn Their Place

Boat houses are the natural home for our truss work: a vaulted timber roof turns a utilitarian slip cover into the best-looking structure on the cove, and the truss geometry provides honest clearance for lifts and hardtops. Waterfront pavilions and gazebos follow the same logic — open span, high ceiling, real weather loads — and we've built them on driven pilings at the water's edge.

Inland, we build trusses for outdoor living structures, porch and patio roofs, and homes wanting exposed heavy-timber ceilings. Because the timber is treated to its exposure (and structures over water ride on marine pilings), these aren't decorative appliqués — they're the actual structure, built to carry Gulf Coast wind and weather for generations.
